The “Will to Succeed” Foundation is in the beginning stages of implementing its Special Teams Program. This program provides a point of initiation and model of operation for organizations or groups who, through individual charitable actions, want to assist in supporting Foundation initiatives, or help in discovering their own.  The Solomon Valley Supporting Hands Project is an inaugural participant.

Created in 1993, the “Will To Succeed” Foundation was established by Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro Right Guard, Will Shields and his wife Senia, for the purpose of inspiring, guiding, and improving the lives of abused, battered and neglected women and children.  The Foundation gives direct assistance and resources to individuals, families and other charitable organizations. Resources directly supplied by the Foundation include clothing, toiletries, toys, books, school supplies and educational tools, including computers, cash and a host of other items.  Nurturing experiences and personal opportunities are also provided for those in the inner city who have little or no access to other assistance. The Foundation touches many organizations and agencies throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan area and beyond.

However, first and foremost, the Foundation believes that it is most important to "take care of home first."  In other words, if there is a family or individual in anyone's immediate area that can benefit from goods collected for Foundation initiatives, those people should be identified and assisted first!

Why is the Solomon Valley Supporting Hands Project participating in the “Will to Succeed” Foundation's Special Teams Program

A few years ago, Kansas City Chiefs, All-pro offensive guard, Will Shields, visited the Waconda East schools in Glen Elder and Cawker City.  The visit was highlighted by his address to those in attendance at the annual Waconda East High School Athletic Awards Banquet, in Cawker City.  Aware of Mr. Shields' support of neglected and abused women and children, the students, supported by many area residents, collected over 5,000 books and donated them to his Foundation.  Since that time many have continued to contribute books, clothing and other items to his organization's initiatives.  A recent surge in charitable interest and donations from around the area, aimed toward the Will to Succeed Foundation, has been the inspiration for creating the
Solomon Valley Supporting Hands Project.
